think twice before you cut your front bumper cover - the gt3 smiles are for the 997 cars and follow the 997 hood line; the curve doesn't match our cars. to see a front vent that works for the 9x6 series, search images of a 996 gt3 rs ...

Oh I'm not going to use it if I can make it work. It's supposed to be a factory part, has part numbers, but its long. I'm going to paint it so I can modify it. If not it was only $69 so Ill see what I can do. The one you posted a link to is $400. That's a little pricey to play with.
I heard several times that it doesn't match the line of the bumper/hood. Doesn't seem that bad. Of course I'm not holding it straight but what do you think?

I've seen 2 of them installed in person on 986, you have to trim the edges or else mount it super low.. It actually looked pretty good, let me see if I can find a picture. It was functional too, he had tilted his center rad to route the air up and out.

Yeah, on the 996 it doesn鈥檛 flow well and looks like an add on that was misplaced. Not a fan. Perhaps body color would help.

Have you thought about the 996 GT2 vent/grille? It flows with the shape of the hood the best. I can't comment on the cost or if it can even be bought separately though it may just be easier to buy a replica GT2 bumper for a 986 at that point.

$69 vs 4 to $500 for a cheap one. I think can make this look good or I won't do it.
You really think it looks that bad? Bad red PS

I wasn't aware of the price difference. My thinking was that it would just be best to get something that is shaped for our hood, not a 997. What about a black sticker? Heres a Ruf bumper with what looks like a sticker in that area.

Not sure you are soliciting opinions on the look. I personally don鈥檛 like the one in the red car because it doesn鈥檛 follow the hood line very well. The one on the last car how it flows looks better to me.
