A different look for sure.
Sorry, but not for me either. |
I like it. How about a photo from further away?
|
Is that semi-permanent or permanent or can you make adjustments? I like the look but I don't like covering the fog light! Can you open up a half-circle above the turn signal light to let the fog light function?

Something like this, but I don't know exactly where the fog light is and there are similar aftermarket ones already available. And my fingers aren't the best on a mousepad for paintbrush editing -

What I was attempting to do, unsuccessfully, was make covers like this for a 986. Not to sell, just for me. No one makes them yet. I really think that if someone made a high quality part, they would sell. Unfortunately I have neither the equipment or the skill to do so. Had fun though.

I've probably seen just about every possible iteration of headlight covers for the 986 and 996. They all look like someone stuck stupid covers on their headlights. :p
The headlights are what they are. Quit trying to fight it. Embrace it. That, or change the whole front end. |
Black inner edge?http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1531506640.jpg

i like silver, but think you have to cover the turn signals as well.

Doing a good job so far...I like the red one.
I am not a big fan of covers as well (except on a black car), as the look too bulky in spots, where they shouldn't. Car wrap or paint sounds like a perfect solution, but I realized, that it is too flat in spots where I want stuff to stick out. The road I went down on is not perfect, but creates what I wanted: I wanted the main head Lights to stick out more, be a little raised...just a trim to emphazise that. PORSCHE created that trim, but flat^^...I raised it again. Sorry can't help it, but even the world best designers cannot convince me 100%, I cannot keep stuff stock. I think i must have delusions of Grandeur  Happens to others, too...love it http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1531511639.jpg So go on JB, show what you can do and what fits your taste. |

I had blue tinted film from Laminix on my Lexus that lasted 7 years in SoCA sun, maybe they can make something for your headlights etc.

I'd cover the corner piece at a minimum.
The 996 MKII covers look great: https://rennlist.com/forums/attachme...n-imag1620.jpg ...however the MKI prototypes look like garbage: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f36b89bc61.jpg More here starting at post #36: https://rennlist.com/forums/parts-marketplace/986317-porsche-996-headlight-covers-all-new-design-3.html |
Yes Ive been following that thread for a while. I'd buy a set today if he had them available for the 986. As soon as he get them ready I'm in. This is just a temporary fix.
Not that it compares to those but I like to keep busy. 😀 |

The 986 bezel prototypes have the same old problem, too bulky in certain spots. I think the only way is a symbiosis of a bezel trim and paint/wrap. That would be my way...it would get rid of too much contrast of PORSCHE's bright fake internal trim + DLR in clear corner (if anybody came up with a proper solution for that) |
If you want to get rid of the 986 headlight look, I think that you have to delete the whole thing except for the circle. Put a turn light in the bumper. I expect that there are DOT or state limitations on where the turn signal has to be located though.
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1531610249.jpg Maybe get some motorcycle turn signal bars and mount them on the fenders? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1531610339.jpg |

From what I've gleamed (although the state website is not real user friendly, so I also looked at some legal search engines) is that the turn signal must be located at a height greater than 24" but less than 60" and when illuminated must show an amber color (although strangely enough, the statue from the Indiana site lists a range of colors from white to amber?) and reflectors must produce an amber color when illuminated from an outside source. I should state that in the alternative (as the statute is rather confusing) it's whatever the arresting officer says it is when he gives you a ticket. Anyway...pointless information. :) |
Like them lots. I'm always amazed at what you guys can do.

😴 Paint tomorrow 😉 http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1531780644.jpg

Painted just laying there. Not dry enough to add black molding or stick together 😀 http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1531849730.jpg

Got one finished. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1531877262.jpg

I say this with the deepest respect (as I know how you love playing with various styles), but this just looks like a painted headlight...with the added drawback of loosing a foglight. I can understand the look your going for, but this approach is a little too obvious for my tastes.
As always, to each their own...and if YOU like it, that's all that's really important...I do salute your passion for creativity though. :) |

The slanted line on the turn signal looks all wrong. Cover the corner trim and the turn signal if you're going to do this or it just looks terrible (may still).
For a turn signal, switch out the parking light for a switchback LED. |

I like the mixed concept so far.
For the turnsignals I would suggest using amber foil and outline variations. Here is a quick idea.Amber + red = perfect combo in my opinion. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1531942588.jpg I would play a little to match the design of the front intakes somehow. I am pretty sure, PORSCHE will call me soon :D |
cover the turn signal portion with something like this so as to emulate an early 911 ...

looks good in red, throwback style...but I'm staying stock
