Spacers...

Team,
What are the widest spacers I can put on a stock 986 S without rubbing. I was thinking 20mm front, 15 rear, but I want to use stock bolts for the wheel and thought I'd ask who sells a complete kit. Advice on width and sourcing would be appreciated.
I have the 18" wheels.

All spacers will require longer lug bolts according to Porsche

That is right, except for their own 5mm spacers. And according to Porsche, it is not recommended to run different sizes (front/rear). But that would mean 5mm front/rear only. TÜV did not complain, when approving my set up, so...

edc 05-28-2018 05:02 AM

Even the OE 5mm spacers come with longer bolts.

I'm not a rocket surgeon... but wouldn't the size of your wheel reveal if there's going to be rubbing or not? I'm running the stock 16s with 20mm spacers rear... 10mm front.

What size wheel you running? Did I miss something?

I went with ECS. Came with the extended bolts.

A8ked 05-28-2018 10:04 AM

I'm using 20mm spacers front and rear with the original 17" turbo twist wheels. I purchased the spacers thru ECS, they came with the correct length longer bolts.

Could you possibly post some pics of the 17+spacers? I'm interested in this route myself.

I have the original 18" twist wheels, stock tire size and want the wider stance. Not sure if 20mm spacers in the rear will introduce rubbing or not, hence the question.

It seems that 15mm are the most popular, which gets me thinking that wider might present an issue

edc 05-28-2018 02:59 PM

If you are that concerned get a couple of rulers and see for yourself. Measure the gap from the wheel to the outer arch liner

Stroked & Blown 05-28-2018 05:27 PM

I run H&R 23mm spacers in the rear with both my stock 17” twists & my Carrera lights.
5mm up front, IIRC.

That you've finally revealed your wheel size now causes everything to make sense. Thank you.

I'm wishing I had purchased the 23s for the rear. 20 just seems a little shy.

Can you post a pic? I have the 17" twist on my 00, looking at the spacers too, was thinking 15mm all around.

Van914 05-29-2018 01:17 PM

If interested I have a set of 15MM with Bolts for sale. Posted in Parts for sale.
Thanks

So, I wouldn't just be able to add 20mm spacers on the rear (to a stock 'S' setup)?

Racer Boy 05-29-2018 11:27 PM

You need the longer bolts, too.

Can you link to the other post as I couldn't find it? Was looking at ECS but no 15MM with bolt sets in silver only HR which seem too expensive. like $350

You can do that if you want to.

Looking spot on... hopefully you bought same 20mm for front as they can easily use same if not a smidge more than rear...

Good luck :)

Lew 06-06-2018 08:24 AM

I don't have spacers, but I would think with the widest spacers you might get some rock chips on the fenders and their edges. Am I wrong...

ShortRound 06-06-2018 09:05 AM

20mm on both front and back with no rubbing?

Cunningr 06-06-2018 09:25 AM

I have a set of 15mm on the way. ECS said 15mm bout right.

A8ked 06-06-2018 10:06 AM

Yes, 20mm on both front and rear with no rubbing.

Would you post a picture from the back and the front of your car?

Thanks!

Rubbing? Where? You've got about 10 feet of space there. I'm confused. Rubbing?

A8ked 06-06-2018 10:04 PM

Read again carefully I said no rubbing.

A8ked 06-06-2018 10:38 PM

Lew,
I'll try to get photos from the front and back tomorrow.

A8ked 06-07-2018 06:10 PM

A couple more photos for Lew.
20mm Spacers on 17" Turbo Twist wheels. Hope these are helpful.

Lew 06-07-2018 07:17 PM

Thanks for the pictures. I noticed your deck lid is without the Boxster emblem. Did you remove it? I recently installed the Porsche letters and I really like how it looks now.

A8ked 06-07-2018 08:02 PM

Yes, I removed it.
Mine was black and I felt the trunk looked better without the faded black emblem and I am too cheap to buy a chrome one.

Why spacers? I have the 17 inch turbo twist offset, with no need for spacers..

For looks mostly moves the wheels and tires out gives the car a broader stance.

A8ked 06-07-2018 10:21 PM

As Cunningr said, for looks, they fill out the wheel wells.
They also add a few IHP.

IHP = Imagined Horse Power :)
