This forum is called "986" forum for a reason (of course, you're going to find more votes for 986's!).

Drive them all (986, 987, base, S) and decide for yourself which you like better. No amount of advice can replace first hand experience.

When you decide on a model, then buy the lowest mileage, newest, and best condition car you can afford.

I would get the 01 for the following reasons

1. Less miles
2. S model
3. You mentioned it is cleaner
4. I do not think the 05 is worth 4k more. Install an new IMS, clutch and new top with glass window.
