Tiptronic shifter question

My 2002 has a shifter issue I don't see anyone asking about. Basically, it flops around between drive and manual, really loose. If I hold it over to drive, sometimes that isn't enough and I need to select gear on steering wheel. Anybody have any ideas?

So, A tiptronic boxster S with a shifter issue. It is loose and floppy, moving between Drive and Manual shift like a wet noodle. If I hold it in drive, MOST of the time it shifts, but sometimes it is still in manual. Really frustrating having to hold the shifter, move the buttons for shifting and steer all at once. The indicator light moves around like a coin-op toy on the midway between Drive and Manual, current gear, etc.

Is the fix replacing the shifter assembly or is there a bushing or something that breaks. Anyone heard of this or know a solution?

It doesn't seem that anyone has an answer for you. Get in the console and see what's wrong.

Text Woody and price a new shifter unit. I replaced one a year or two ago. Not much internally that is worth the trouble to fix when compared to replacing it.
