On Board Computer Present?

Hi all:

I need to replace the combination switch on my 01S. How can I tell if the car has the M659 on board computer option? if it does, I'd order the 4 lever unit instead of the 3 lever unit that's there now.

Thanks

All 01 cars were OBC "capable", meaning that everything but the four stalk control and system activation was already in the car, regardless of how the car was optioned. If you add the stalk and wiring, simply activating the system will give you an OBC system.

Thanks JFP

Is this literally plug and play?

My understanding is the four stalk unit comes wired with two plugs. So do I just plug these into their corresponding sockets and activate the system?

I also seem to remember there's a process to activate things perhaps using a Durametric thereby bypassing the dealer.

You will need some jumper wires to make the connection to the gauge panel once the fourth stalk is installed, and access to either Durametric or the factory computer.

Here's a How To article.

After removing the steering wheel, be careful removing the clock spring so it doesn't come unwound.
