Car cut off?

I went through the McDonald's drive through got a hamburger and sat in the Boxster and ate it, started the car and left the parking lot in 1st gear driving slow and got about 100 yards away and the car cuts off. I coasted to a stop and it restarted no problem and has run fine since.

Any thoughts?

Did you get fries?

Haha, sorry, couldn't help myself.
I don't have an answer for you. Did it sort of sputter and die, like fuel delivery? Or did it just shut off, like ignition?

My 98' Boxster (83,000 miles) did that a couple of times last summer and it threw a few check engine light codes at the same time. Turned out to be a couple of sensors in the pollution control system. Cost me about $600 and hasn't been a problem since. It was a strange feeling to be driving down the road as the dash warning lights all came on and the engine just went silent as I coasted to a stop.

I suggest you check to see if there are any stored codes with a code reader.

No Fries ha ha. Car didn't sputter it just cut off like you turned the key to the off position. Kinda sounds like the ignition switch, but that has been replaced?

I have a thought - I'm hungry

Fuel pump relay?
- - For me it would shut the motor off. Crank but no start. 5-10 mins later it would start run fine for a couple miles and shut off. Repeat

Beginning of Crank position sensor failure?

Hopefully it was just the car's way of telling you not to eat McDonald's in it and it doesn't happen again!

My wife's Acura had the check engine light come on and had 3 messages - check emissions system, check trailering system and check VSA system. Took it to the dealer and they concluded it was due to 100,000 miles on the spark plugs. They cleared the code and it hasn't come back, but the next service will be the big one - spark plugs, timing belt, water pump, cooling system flush, accessory serpentine drive belt and tensioner pulley.

Mine started randomly cutting out like that. Didn't throw any codes. It got worse over time and some other weird electrical stuff started happening. Figured for $20 I'd take a chance and replace the ignition switch. Hasn't cut out since and the weird electrical stuff went away.

Check the OBDII for codes and report back.
