2004 Anniversary Edition
I just put a refundable deposit down on this car with March delivery.
I drove the '04 S as a test, and loved it! Soooo sticky in the twisties and fast enough. This car is suppose to be a touch more powerful with an even tighter suspension. Any reason not to go forward with the purchase?? Thanks Vic |
congrats- I like the car alot and I think other than looking at a 996 used for that money would be my only other consideration. I think that I read that it has a little more power and I love the way it looks. You should enjoy it- keep us posted!
I hate to sour up the party but just an honest opinion. If I was in the market today for another S I would buy a used one or wait. The reason is that I feel that when the 2005 model Boxster coup comes out with the face lift our cars will take a hit in value. To buy a 2004 now and take a double hit, both as a new car depreciating and the new shape next year doesn't make too much sense to me. If you do go ahead with it though then please enjoy it to the fullest!
Also consider a 2000-2003 S with low miles and well optioned as you will save alot of money both now and on resale. :) |
I saw some pics of the 2005s, and they look horrible. The front looks like a MR2, and the tail looks very ..... how shall I put this... the tail lights look like the ones on an infinity Q35.
I'd say buy the 2004, but as Stryke said, you may wait until the end of the year, they may drop the prices. Then again, I've got one already and have a very hard time suggesting someone else wait :) |
Yeah, It might be a good idea to wait if you can. I got 5k hacked off the sticker price of my 03 because I got it in September. Is anyone else pissed because porsche keeps a chokehold on how much hp the boxster S can have. I know they don't want to cut into the white meat of their revenue(911), but they need to stop dicking around with boxster owners. Whats up with all these tiny hp increments. First the S had 250hp, then in 03 they gave in 258hp, then for 04 it stays 258 for the regular S, but the anniversery version gets 264hp. Why didn't they give all the 03-04 S's 264hp? In fact, why mess around at all and just give the boxster S the 300hp it deserves.
If they gave the S 300hp, at about $20K more, who would ever buy another C2? :)
They could probably do a 300hp box for 60-65k base I bet. Your right stryke, who would srcew with the c2, its overpriced and underpowered for the $$$. Don't 911 cabbies start at 80-85k or something? The thing is, they are basicallly the same as a boxster S, but have a back seat and alittle more displacement in the engine. The parts sharing between the 911 and the boxster s is incredibly high. Ever seen the numbers for the c2's? I have and they are only a couple tenths faster than a boxster S. Why pay 30k for a back seat and a couple tenths?
Thanks for the feedback. All of it sounds right to me.
No doubt Porsche is protecting 911 profits by sitting on power of the Boxster engine! Who would want a 911 if Porsche sold this car: http://www.roockusa.com/products/boxster_product_detail.asp?prodID=986%20RS%20300%2 042 |
Wow awesome. How much would the upgrade cost?
not sure . Did not see a price on the site.
Car is quick as is. The engine still has room to grow in performance. The reality is that we don't enjoy the autobahn so the question is where are you going to enjoy the performance of a 300 hp engine. Certainly not in LIE or the Belt Parkway in NY. It would also make the performance of the boxster very close to the bread and butter 911.
Torque and HP isn't really for the top speed of the vehicle. Its for that punch that you get off the line, or to pull ahead of a big truck. With that said, just because it isn't LEGAL to drive 100+ doesn't mean people don't do it :)
The Boxster with 310 HP claims a blistering 4.0 sec. to 60. If accurate, This is faster than 911 5.0 sec to 62 , faster than the GT3 4.5 sec to 62 and about the same as the Turbo 4.2 sec. claimed for the the 2004 Porsche performance numbers in the brochure. Hard to justify the $140,000 price tag for a turbo in that situation. Expensive rear seats indeed.
Yeah, I've heard Roocke drops in the older 3.4L carrera engines into boxsters. Its looks like a sweet setup. I think the 3.4's have 295hp stock. That should change the personnality of the boxster a tad.:) I think the swap costs big bucks unfortunately. If I had a regular boxster, I would probabbly eventually do the swap since the hp differnce between the 2.7L and the 3.4L is quite big. Since the difference is less dramatic with the boxster S, it would be less of a bargain. I'd probabbly keep the 3.2L on the S and put bolt-on mods on it. You would get about the same hp as the 3.4L but save some cash I'm sure. If you want to see some quality mods IMO, go to www.fabspeed.com Vicelike . They have headers, exhausts, intakes, and they do in-house dynoing to remapp the ecu. Their boxster package that includes all these things adds a claimed 34hp to the wheels. So that is right around 40hp at the crank. They also have an exhaust bolted on a 996 that sounds outright badass. It is fierce, as well as a boxster video clip.
Vicelike, did you check out fabspeed?
I did... they look like a very promising answer. The only issue I have is that they have not had a chance to work on the Ann. Edition so I am wondering if all the things fit and have the same benefits as with the normal S car.
Hard to fault them for not offing mods on a car that has yet to be delivered... lol |
Yeah, I'm not sure what exactly are the differences between the anniverary S and the regular 04 S. Engine wise they are the same, I think they just opened up the intake and maybe exhaust alittle more and thus the extra 6hp. I don't see why the mods wouldn't fit. BTW, they are making only 1,953 anniversary boxsters, just in case you didn't know.
I did know that...I bet 1000 end up in So. Cal.
I got an e-mail from Joe Fabiani who I assume is the owner of Fabspeed. He assures me that all their offerings for the 2004 s will work on my SAE which he suggests is the same car just more aggresively tuned. Looks like muffler, air filter, oil filter and a new chip can get me to 300 hp. I like that. |
I'm new to this forum. First post. I just put a deposit down for a 2004 S SAE. Used to have a regular boxster - best fun I ever had on the road. Put 12k miles in three months-drove across the country and all over New England. Put it away for the winter. It got stolen and totalled but insurance paid out pretty well so I went ahead and did it again! Can't wait.
2004 S. Can't go wrong there. Best boxster on the road. Enjoy. Take some pics and share with us too,

Then when you compose a note, look at the top and you'll see an icon labeled "IMG". That will let you put in the URL (address) of where the image is stored. That's all there is to it. Charlie |

Got it!
Just Beautiful!
Vicelike - great family photo. I like the royal wave.
Those wheels came out for the Carrera while my 02 was sitting on a dock in europe awaiting shipment- they are my absolute favorite wheels. Thinking of clear sidemarkers yet? |
test
very nice!
Awesome!
Just wondering what you ended up paying for that Beauty. |
List was $59,900 + extras (nav + Bose). Dealer knocked off $500
Dealer knocked off $ 500. from list or gave you options and discounted the 59,500 to 59,100?
I sat on a new one at the dealer in Silver star and it was real nice. Beautiful car use it well. Pilot |
How did porsche sqeeze out an extra 6hp out of the anniversary car over the regular S?
Dealer gave me the car, just charged me $68,900 for the key... that was o.t.d. in Cal. Also includes CD changer...forgot that and those nifty Porsche tire valve caps.... oh... and he did not charge me for the NAV CD rom...
I think he would have knocked off another $1,000 if I let him sleep with my wife but I told him he only can f--k one member of the family per transaction. |
lol...nice ^
Renegotiate your wifes contribution shes a cutie.....LOL ;-). It would be for a good cause a PORSCHE not a Chevy. Is she going to let you drive it? She looks very comfortable in the drivers seat!
