SR7 Plus???

Has anyone or have they had an Escort Passoprt SR7 Plus Shifters installed on their Boxster?

I'm looking to install my own, I'm kinda handy and enjoy doing this type of stuff. There is a laser receiver/transmitter that mounts on the rear license plate that needs a route into the cabin, and likewise a laser receiver/transmitter & radar receiver that mount in the two front intakes. I really have not started to poke around and find ways through the sheet metal, but would appreciate any experienced guidance in my wire routing. I intend on mounting the head unit in the bow tie on the console. On the Escort site they show a Bosxter install that is rather impressive.

I don't have any experience with the SR7, but I'm a fan of Escort.

I don't quite get the license plate mounts... I mean, if it detects laser in that location, aren't you already dead in the water? Or does it jam laser?

There is a transceiver that mounts to the front and rear and interferes with the police laser signal to give a false or failed reading. Unfortunatly it does not work with radar. Here is San Antonio, we are not "High Tech" and the police use X predominatly and K occasionally. At any rate I've used an 8500 for the last three years with great success, and upgraded to a 8500 X50 and can find them a mile or two away. Lately the DPS is using a "pulse" that radiates very little until they pull the trigger (AKA they sight you), and then there is nothing left but the dialog.........Sir, do you know how fast you were going, is there some kind of emergency?

I had the SRX installed by the dealer. They put the "head unit" where you connect everything in the front trunk area by the battery. They went from there through the fire wall about dead center in the car in the same area. I can check to see how they went through. For the rear shifter they went through a hole that was already there by the top of the license plate I believe but I can check that too. The front shifers are in each of the front intakes on the top. The radar detector unit is in the lower part of the right intake. The Inteior unit is in the "cubby" in front of the stick shift. They just used 2 sided tape. I made slide it back in a bit further. I had the remote mute button run to the left side of the dash to the right of the ingnition area. It's easy to reach with your left hand. I also had the bi-color led put just above the steering column and below the right guage. I highly recommend the remote mute button (lets you change volume as well) and the led. When it goes to mute it's hard to hear and you have to keep looking at the unit to see if the radar is still on. The led just blinks red and you don't have to take your eye off the road. I'll check the front firewall and see if they went through an existing hole. Total installation with the unit was $2,300 US and well worth it. It took them several hours to install. The laser shifters do work. I was nailed dead to rights by a laser gun and managed to slow down and get back into the center lane of a three lane highway behind another car as the cop took a second shot. I was concerned that the radar reception would not be optimal because of the low location in the front right air intake but I used my 8500 along with it to test it and the SRX detected the radar before the 8500 everytime by a small margin.

WOW! $2,300 sounds like a ton of money to run around exceding the posted speed limits! Oh well, to each their own.

bmussatti - I don't know about where you drive but the highways in my area are all 55 mph. Anything over 65 mph, especially in a Porsche and you're ticketed. 70-75 mph is generally my limit and I'm going through speed traps more and more often. We also have some clever areas where they drop the speed limit from 45 to 25 and back and that's where they put more speed traps. We've had one "construction area" sign up for over a year on a rural road where the police sit and pull you over if you don't have your headlights on. There hasn't been any construction yet though. Most of these posted speed limits are not about driving safety but revenue generation it would seem. I don't feel reckless driving 70 on a 4 lane highway posted at 55 with people passing me. It's a revenue racket and I'll use the best defense I can. I also won't keep taking a portable detector in and out of the car. So when I put in that kind of radar detector it's not because I'm thinking, "Gee I want to exceed the posted speed limit." I know if I ever get the car out of 3rd gear I'm going to be going faster than 55 and every other day there's going to be a cop sitting in some spot ready to bring in another chunk of cash. What's the speed limit where you live?

mwh98 - Here are some pictures. The first shows where they put the wires through the heatshield by the battery. As far as I can tell there was a hole there already since one wire going through seems to run from under the battery. Not a great photo but you can see the wires going through by the silver duct tape. The rest are the left front showing the laser shifter and radar detector, right front, mute button, led and control unit. I didn't include the rear laser shifter but it's simply mounted on the top two screws with the wire going through and existing hole in the rear panel and a hole cut through the top of the black plastic backing behind the license plate.

This photo shows the interior control unit. They appear to have drilled a hole from the back of the "cubby" to get the wire through. I explored the possibilty of cutting out the area between the spoiler button and pasm button above but the unit actually has a single circuit board running across the entire unit so it did not seem practical.
