1 second rattle at start up
Hi Chaps
Just wondering if anyone else's boxster does a one second rattle at start up when cold.
When my mechanic replaced my dried out starter motor for a new one he must have noticed it as he asked me if its always done it since iv had it. It has... he said its nothing to worry about as its just building oil pressure.
Once its had its first start of the day its fine.

My '98 does it if the car sits for more than a few days. I understand it's the cam tensioner's losing pressure over time. I'm told it's normal.

'97 does that too. Factory bonus, slack chain engages better and last longer and-all apparently (I think). Heard it helps chew in brown plastic also, not sure if true
I know it sounds really sexy though, because anyone near will be turning head at the red car when it cold start. Crushvooom!

If my car sits for more than a few days, I pull the fuel pump fuse, crank it twice for 6-7 seconds each time, replace the fuse, and start it w/o chatter.

I've got this too on my 98, It seamed like it was more noticeable after my oil change, M1 0W-40. I might should check exhaust clamps too as noted.

My '01 S makes this rattle sound too. I believe it is the cam tensioners as others have said. A few of my BMW M cars did this too. I think it sounds cool.

Pretty common Porsche cold start sound. I don’t lose any sleep over it.
