Has anyone ever welded a permanent extension onto the stock roll bar?

Or even made a taller replacement? Seems like a good alternative to bolting and unbolting the Brey Krause for driving events.

The roll bar is made from high strength steel. Welding something to it will weaken it. You should never do that!

Good to know. Has anyone ever set out to make a taller replacement option, rather than a bolt on extension?

You have to consider the clearance needed for the soft top to be put up/down. There are more extensive roll cage setups for racing.

You can't really go any higher than the BK bar, the top barely clears it, and if you don't close the latch it will touch.

What's wrong with leaving the extension on the car full time?

the safety devices bolt in roll bar is taller (how do i know - my ztop won’t fit over it, but fits over the oem roll bar) and gives you the option of adding door bars, etc.
