Instrument panel lights stay on

My wife and I just purchased a 2000 Boxster S... This car is awesome!

Today we noticed that the instrument panel lights would stay on after we removed the key and got out of the car. I had noticed that they would stay on before, but they always turned off after the drivers side door was opened. Now they stay on. The only way that I have found to get them to go off is to either push the lock putton on my key fob or push the lock button on the center console. Does anyone know what might be causing this behavior?

Thanks

Hi,

This is normal. If you lock the car, the lights go out immediately. If you don't lock it, the lights will stay on for 4 minutes, but some of the electronics stay on for up to two hours drawing battery power. It's best to lock the car once you're out...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
