When you say that the lighter is not working, do you mean you can't light a cigarette with it or that when you plug something in to it (a USB adapter, say) you don't get power?

If the former it could be a bad resistance element in the lighter. Parts stores sell repalcement elements, or you can buy an entirely new one from a dealer

If the latter, make sure the device you're trying to power works by plugging it in at another car, and then try a voltmeter to see if you're getting 12 volts power from the contact and ground. If not, you have some detective work to do on the wiring
