Boxter s manual 2001 kicking when shifting gears

Hi there
I've got a 2001 Boxter S manual. Lately I've noticed a loud banging sound when pressing and releasing clutch before and after shifting. Its a loud bang and car usually jerks. Along with this, my airbag light has come on and the car has never been in an accident. Any idea what this could be?

Agreed, front mounts are a consumable on these cars. An insert is not expensive and an easy fix.

There are DIY instructions all over the place. Do a Google search.

Also, purchase the Bentley manual and the 101 Projects book.

Do you think I'm better off sending it to agents?

If you have any aptitude at car repairs this is one of the things you can do yourself and save a ton of money.

I replaced the insert, and I'm not gonna lie, it was a bit of a pain in the balls. I cut the old shell out, and hammered into the new one after heating up the mount in the oven.

Not that bad a job. Before the Boxster, I had never worked on any of my cars in the past (other than oil changes). If I can do it, almost anyone can. With all the online resources these days, I did this myself without a lot of issues. You just need to make sure you have the space, the time, and the tools. For obvious reasons, I would never have attempted this without a back-up vehicle.

Also, if your water pump/thermostat are more than a few years old, this is the time to replace them. Doing the one job gives greater access to do the other.
