The Jӓgermobile went over 300K miles today… Guess it’s time for an oil change.

That's awesome. This proves that proper maintenance can make your engine go a long way.

NewArt 06-12-2017 04:56 PM

How cool is that!

Yes, original motor, no major work other than replacing the IMS bearing twice.

lowpue 06-12-2017 05:15 PM

That is simply amazing...well done. Couple of questions:
1) How is the car holding up overall?
2) Any recent pics?
3) How did you know when it was time to replace the IMS each time.

Ciao 06-12-2017 05:42 PM

Is that real?

Congratulations..!!

With continued TLC (and a few parts), now you have to aim for the 1M mark.. :-)

Maybe you can use that new Mobil oil that only needs changing once a yr. (Ha)

It's holding up quite nicely but I don't let anything go on it. If it needs something fixed I take care of it.

Here are pictures I just took 5 minutes ago:

I replaced the IMS bearing when I replaced the clutch. Last time I checked the bearing that was in the motor (by spinning it with my fingers), and it did not feel as smooth as a new bearing so I replaced it.

LOL... I have been using that High Mileage Mobil 1 oil lately... I think the Jӓgermobile qualifies.

rexcramer 06-12-2017 06:51 PM

Outstanding indeed. Is that the original top?

No, the original top had the plastic window (it cracked in the cold southern California winter... LOL). This one I installed ten years ago, is starting to fade but otherwise seems to be holding-up.

thstone 06-12-2017 08:30 PM

Congrat's and very happy for you!

RennBox 06-12-2017 09:07 PM

Wow... Didn't think I'd see a 986 with mileage this high. Showing this to my friend who has an S2000.

particlewave 06-12-2017 10:52 PM

Ah...I remember when you hit 250k four years ago. I'm a bit ashamed that I've only logged 10k in that time. :)

Jager, speaking about oil, do you know how much oil does your engine uses (about) every 1k miles? I am very curios due to the mileage on your car.

My car has 99k on the clock and it burns about one quart per thousand miles, and according to what I have read here, this oil consumption is kind of normal (no smoke through the tail pipe and have clean plugs..)

Regards!
