Yes, original motor, no major work other than replacing the IMS bearing twice.

That is simply amazing...well done. Couple of questions:
1) How is the car holding up overall?
2) Any recent pics?
3) How did you know when it was time to replace the IMS each time.

It's holding up quite nicely but I don't let anything go on it. If it needs something fixed I take care of it.

I replaced the IMS bearing when I replaced the clutch. Last time I checked the bearing that was in the motor (by spinning it with my fingers), and it did not feel as smooth as a new bearing so I replaced it.

LOL... I have been using that High Mileage Mobil 1 oil lately... I think the Jӓgermobile qualifies.

No, the original top had the plastic window (it cracked in the cold southern California winter... LOL). This one I installed ten years ago, is starting to fade but otherwise seems to be holding-up.

Ah...I remember when you hit 250k four years ago. I'm a bit ashamed that I've only logged 10k in that time. :)

Jager, speaking about oil, do you know how much oil does your engine uses (about) every 1k miles? I am very curios due to the mileage on your car.

My car has 99k on the clock and it burns about one quart per thousand miles, and according to what I have read here, this oil consumption is kind of normal (no smoke through the tail pipe and have clean plugs..)

Jager, your 986 looks amazing! Have you ever had it repainted? I don't see any paint imperfections or serious road rash, what's your secret? I can't wait to see what milestone you hit next, very impressive, and a great example of how proper maintenance affects longevity.

I'm curious to know what your maintenance regimen has been, and what parts you've replaced either due to failure or preventatively other than the IMS. What about the AOS? Water pump?

Have you had the timing chain guides replaced at any point?

What oil/filter do you run, and how often are you changing it?

How hard do you drive it?

If I remember correctly, Pedro posted a pic of his speedo and odometer as he hit 150k miles. His speedo was at 150 mph.

So we need a pic of your speedo at 300mph to keep up with Pedro.

It's using about 1/2 quart between oil changes, 4500 to 5000 miles.

It has not been repainted except for the front bumper cover. The front bumper cover was replaced when I hit a coyote a few years ago (there are posts about it on this forum). If you look closely the paint on the front cover it does not match exactly, but most people don't notice.

I hand wash with soft water and keep a good coat of wax on it, especially the front.

Here is something I wrote a couple years ago that shows some of the maintenance:

Replaced headlights (entire assembly) – The plastic lenses had serous road rash after 200,000 miles
Replaced covers to the key fob remote controls - Myself

Replaced driver’s side window regulator and locking switch – Myself
Replaced the front bumper (I hit a coyote) – Pro

Replaced front wheel bearings 250,000 miles
Replaced catalytic converter (bank 2) 253,000 miles
Replaced AOS again 259.600 miles



My Boxster has the original motor, original muffler. No leaks and motor runs great.
It's my daily driver, I have taken to the track once, cross country twice, but mostly to and from work. I do like to get on it at least once or twice a day... I love to hear 5000 to 6000 RPM out of the motor.

Build date is 06/01 and it has a single row IMS Bearing.

How are your camshaft deviation readings? Would you consider doing the chain guides yourself?

I need to take a look at the deviation... I have not looked for quite some time.

I would consider rebuilding the entire motor when it comes time. I have also considered getting another motor, while they are still available at reasonable prices.
