Fan heater has packed up on 2001 986

Please can someone advise me. The fan appears to have packed up for no reason. All other electrics working fine. Was difficult driving in rain the other day as car misted up badly. No hot/cold air at all coming out of vents. Husband has checked fuses in footwell and they appear to be okay. Changed a relay but still not working. Don't know what else to do. Is a UK car and has no A/C. Thank you

The fan is easy to access under the passengers side. It may simply be bound up due to the foam seals on the diverter flaps braking off and jamming the squirrel cage fan. But while you have it out, you can bench test it and replace it if needed.

Here's a link to a picture of the blower motor with the heater box out of the car. On a left hand drive car, this is on the right side right above your feet. You can get to the blower motor by removing a foam closeout panel under the dash on the right hand side of the vehicle. Unplug the blower motor electrical connector at the motor, remove two 6 mm screws from the bottom of the blower motor housing and it slips right out.
