Alternate Cup Holders
I don't like or trust the OEM cup holders in the Boxster. This has been discussed many times, but I have never seen a review of one of these "add on" cup holders. So I went out and purchased one to see if it would be serviceable.
It works well and fits fine and holds sturdy between the seat and the console, however, it obscures the window and heated seat buttons. It actually will turn on the seat heaters as you try to reposition it on the console.
And it's a bit long in that it rides up the hump towards the shifter.
I may use this as a temporary solution if I have a long trip. Maybe I'll cut out a hole in the bottom to give clearance for the heated seats. Or attach some foam squares to raise it up so it doesn't impact the switches.
I paid $24.95 on Ebay for this and I don't know whether I'm going to keep it or not. Anyone else try one of these?

I would worry about that scuffing and scratching the console finish.
I believe the "ultimate cup holder" is the go-to.

I use the SunCoast armrest cupholder insert. It drops right into the open armrest and holds cups really well. But it's not an ideal place for your drink, you have to reach around and behind yourself to get your cup. But if I need to bring home a large iced coffee for my wife, it is a good place to put it.

I never went with that type of cupholder because of concerns over the edge damaging the leather/console. The best solution is the ultimate cupholder, all of the other options (dash, console storage, etc) have faults.

You do know that there's a nice spot right by the pass seat adjustment latch that holds a bottle of water perfectly, right? I simply use that, and also have the Suncoast armrest cup holder insert for larger cups.

+1 (or +2, I guess) on the ultimate cupholder. I tried the one that slots between the seats and didn't like it - it encroaches too much on the passenger seat. Using the one that fits in the armrest results in too far a reach back IMO. The ultimate cupholder places the cup out of sight and easily reachable, and doesn't restrict my leg.

I had this product, Definitely does scuff the centerconsole, did it to mine. And your silver finish on your center console seems very nice, I'd get rid of it quick.
Agree on ultimate cup holder, buy 2 of them

Ultimate cup holder
Anyone found a good way to tie it down so it does not slip around on the passenger's floorboard area ??

I use a cup holder that slides into my window opening. Doesn't interfere with the window operation, holds anything I have tried to put in it, and costs $5.95 at Canadian Tire.

+++ on UCH. High quality, felt lined, adjustable, easy to reach location, and doesn't interfere with leg room. Get two. Can put both on one side or one on each side of console.

I have a couple of these. One for each side. Similar to 'ultimate cup holder' but cheaper.
Push the rubber flap under the center console and then put the floor mat over the base of the holder - works great and can't fall over.
