You should be able to swap the stereo no problem. My 2002 base has the optional Bose system with the amplifier mounted in the front trunk and the rear speaker box. In the installation kit I got from Crutchfield the amp wiring has it's own adapter, which goes from the stock connector going to RCA style plugs that go into the stereo.
