Never considered it. Houston weather is usually warm, we pretty much missed winter this year. Having said that I was once outside in 7 degree F weather in Houston so it can get cold. If you really didn't need the heat, valving off the heater core would make the AC work. Not sure if it would have an unintended effect on engine cooling though.
