I agree with this comment. This is a street car and not headed for a racetrack. I have built, owned, raced 4 BMW racecars (incl a first gen e30 M3 and a e36 M3 LTW) and raced with BMW CR and SCCA CR. On the racecars, I really worried and focused on weight, however on the streetcar, it is less important to me.

yep, agreed -> ANYTHING "light weight" = "nice to have", definitely NOT a "must have" for a street car.

Seen the wheels you are about to received in person last autumn. They are fabulously well made.

Manufacturing techniques and materials/paint/clears they use have improved greatly (read day & night) since a few years (beats oem). Might/might not be heavier and even if they are I don't think you'll see a huge difference for a roadster cruising public roads anyway.

Buy reasonably lightweight tires for them and have fun man

The rims the OP is wanting are around the same weight as my 18 inch Carrera lights and in a 2.5 or 2.7, there will be a noticeable off-the-line acceleration decrease.

This thread has renewed my desire to repaint my 17's and put them on my car and sell my aftermarket 18s.

To go back to my opening post, I have a 986S so I have the larger motor and it has the 18" Turbo twist wheels so I am not expecting much negative effect. Also keep in mind, coming from racecars that put over 422 HP to the rear wheels and weigh under 2500 lbs with me in it... all street cars feel slow :)

My 986 Boxster S is a summer cruiser and I think I am going to like the look of the new wheels.

lolll coming from a modified 145kg Superbike with 210HP, I think I know exactly what you mean. Even the latest Lambo productions doesn't cut it. Bike hurts though...

The wheels arrived and are sitting in their boxes at the shop. I need to head over and take a look at them at some point. The car is tucked away for the winter and I hope to have the tires mounted on the rims and the rims on the car in a month and a half. I usually pull the car out in April. By then the snow is gone and the salt has washed away.

I'll post pics as soon as its out.

I did exactly the same thing as Randall concerning aftermarket Carrear wheels. They are heavier but look 1000% better than the twist OEM's. And after all it's looks we're going after or why else change the wheels. By the way I like the look of the Fuch's.

Here are my Otto Fuchs with Cup-2 rubber, I´m quite happy with it, just need to figure out wether to use black or chrome Wheel nuts..

Here are my newly mounted Starke Design SC18 with Toyo Proxes T1 Sport tires on my 2001 986 S. The car is lowered on H&R springs.

I like the more aggressive offset of these wheels compared to stock.

As for weight, I feel no difference in acceleration.

I ordered black lug bolts to replace the stock silver lug bolts and I have Porsche center caps I am painting black to match the wheels.

When you look at the back of the Starke Design center caps, it looks like they took a Porsche style center cap and the have their cover over that - if you can find the Porsche crests cheap enough, you can make the Starke center caps look OEM.
