I agree on corrosion protection built into the Boxsters and the benefits of snow tires. A long time ago Car and Driver did a comparison of various front, rear and all wheel drive cars on snow with and without snow tires. The overriding conclusion was that snow tires made for the best driving on snow regardless of drivetrain, and that any car with snow tires was better than any other car without snow tires.

One problem you can't avoid even with snow tires are the people in cars that shouldn't be allowed on the road who might hit you, and those in SUV's and luxury AWD cars without snow tires or a clue that all their AWD gives them is better traction, no better steering or braking!
