Have you seen the maintenance costs on old Ferrari's.

I would be curious to know how many 718s will be sold with a price tag in excess of $100k. At $113k it has to be one of the most expensive four cylinder cars currently available new.

Oh yeah, I really like the color but not by $2.6k!

There isn't any more mythical unicorn tears or pixie dust in a Ferrari than a Porsche.

Most of the cost comparisons assume taking it to a high end shop where the labor is ridiculously expensive. For example, there are a lot of items that need to be inspected and that labor quickly drives up the price whereas you can do this yourself for free instead of paying a shop $200 per hour to LOOK at your car.

If you can DIY the work, the maintenance is actually quite affordable.

Yes, and the car won't depreciate like a 718 will!

The amount of Porsche parts that are general Bosch fanfare that you can get wholesale for the same price to fix a BMW or Porsche is far greater than that of a Ferrari. Much more crap on a Ferrari is in house or from more unique suppliers and it runs prices up on Maintanace even if you do it yourself.

That being said though I'd rather a 981 spyder than a 100k 718. 3.8 flat 6 cannibalizes any reason to buy a 2.5 4.

Even if you're savvy at sourcing parts and do you own work the expense of owning a ferrari is in following the ridiculous maintenance schedule. On a f430 for instance, a major engine service (tensioners, bearings, seals, gaskets etc) is supposed to be done every 3 years or 12.5k (or something to that effect). Clutches tend to last 15 to 20k max etc.

You guys are a rough crowd!

Personally, I'm not loving the new 718 body style. I think they lost the elegant and sexy lines. My teenage son describes the new style as a German attempt at being an American muscle car. Owwch!!

I don't know if I'd go that far....but I'm kinda with him.

I love the lines of the old I guess.

I'm sure basics are easy to do but don't F430s need engine out service every 30k? Most do it yourselfers can't drop an engine. These cars also have some well documented weaknesses that need addressing.
