				Help in purchase

			So
 Wondering about consensus...do I buy:

2008 Cayman S - 28,000 miles...new tires, mint condition, fabspeed exhaust $29500. Have physically driven this car.

2010 Cayman S - 20,000 miles, mint, hotrodded with fabspeed supercup exhaust, wheels, et . NO IMS - $43,000

 2014 Cayman Base - 7,000 miles. $45,000

All are the right color. Biggest difference is cost obviously...08 has IMS. 2010 has 320 hp and more with the exhaust and longtube headers...

The Cayman base is a 14 and newer tech but only 275 hp.

I am on the porsche fence. What do you do?

Why do you want a Cayman? Or, are you just adding it to fill out your collection?

I am specifically looking for a Cayman. I have had all the others and always liked the Cayman.

Will you be doing DEs or AXs or just street driving?
The IMS in the M97 engine (06-08 Cayman 987.1 engine) has a 1% chance of failure. The 987.1 has other issues that need addressing if you plan to track it. No need to address them if you just plan to do street use.

I do approx. 4 DEs / yr with my 08 CSS. I changed the oil baffle, make sure the power steering is at the proper level before each DE, and shift at 6K rpm to alleviate pressure on the rod bolts. No problems in 4 yrs. My 08 LE is a fair weather car. I don't worry about IMS issues in either one.

For the price difference between the 987.1S and the 987.2s you're looking at, buy the 987.1S and save the $10K IN CASE you blow your engine.

The standard advice is to buy the newest and least mileage Porsche that you can afford. Also, if at all possible, you really want to avoid the IMS worry.
Thus, it would seem that the choice is between the 2010 S model and the 2014 base. I'd recommend driving them both and then decide which you like better. The additional power of the S might beat out the newer base model. Or it might not matter to you. The only way to know is to drive them.
