Desnorkel Weirdness

I found online somewhere that you can get a better sound from the intake with the removal of the snorkel on that intake. However, I'm greeted by a very different sight inside my side vent. After removing the torx screw, this plastic piece seems to be held on by a clip that comes off on one side, but it seems to be held on more securely on the other. Should I just keep yanking on it, or should I try a different approach?
