Motor vehicle information is very easy to obtain, There are car theft gangs who operate by spotting cars & noting the plate number. Yes, you are absolutely right about Mexico. People would be very surprised at how uncommon drugs are in Colombia. There are also no car theft gangs here. Often on the street where I live there are no less than 30 military guys with machine guns and a dozen cops standing around. I am not too worried about the car getting stolen.
