Getting stuck in 3rd gear- help pls!

As the title says, I am getting stuck in 3rd gear (manual 6-speed 2000 S). I have a short shifter kit that has been working fine for a good few years. Its gets stuck in 3rd, and with a shorter throw than normal, I can move between natural and 3rd, not not select any other gears. With manipulation and force I manage to get back to normal.

Any ideas? It is extremely frustrating, happened 3 times now.

thanks in advance

Check the 2 x cables where they connect to the gearbox linkage arms under the rear r/h side of the car. There is a clip which secures the cables - it may be missing or broken.
You will have to jack up the rear of the car to be able to see where the cables are connected.
Use the search function for more details.

Garage
You can get down there from the top side with long arms actually or just getting your head under the car when parked.

My 6 speed did this in 5th once and 3rd once, both times very annoying. A sleeve was falling on the cables and getting me stuck in gear now I have a simple hairpin like clip holding it up and haven't had an issue since!

Best of luck!
