550 rear bumper grilles
Thinking of adding a set of these (painted black probably) to tidy the rear end of the car a bit as I don't really like being able to see the stock muffler through the cutouts. Does anybody know what is involved in installing them? I was hoping it could be done without taking the bumper off. Also, does anybody know of a cheaper place to buy them? I'd be fine with knockoffs as long as they fit but haven't had much luck finding anything on ebay.

Do any other years have the cut out and opening in the rear bumper?

2003 has the same bumper cover. Their ad says from 8/2002.

I put an 03-04 rear bumper on my 99. When I did I went to lowes and used gutter guard mesh in the 2 lower openings came out great.

Hey Mike, how did you attach the gutter guard material?

Ditto. How did you do the install, Mike? I did polish my muffler and tailpipe, but I think I'd still prefer the screens to match the silver mesh I installed in front

I was having the bumper painted so I drilled out all the pop rivets holding the trim pieces on. So when I put it all back together I got the gutter guard and cut it, then painstakingly, slowly bent it so it would fit on the inside of the bumper over the openings. I made sure to leave enough of a lip so that when I re-popriveted the pieces back on, the pop rivet would also catch the gutter guard lip and hold it in place. I also have a 996 front bumper on my 99 and did the same thing only I used black zip ties to hold it in place. Make sense?

I bought extra long stainless pop rivets from lowes and put washers over them to hold in the mesh. Sorry but I am thinking back to when I did it and remembering what I did.
