Engine clatter
When driving near a wall, i hear some clatter from the engine, not unlike what an air-cooled engine sounds like. This sound is louder when the engine is colder and gets quieter when the engine is warmed up.
Given that this is my first Porsche, I'm not sure if this sound is normal. The Independant Porsche Specialist I go to says there is nothing to worry about, that the hydraulically-operated tappets will adjust themselves once the engine is properly warmed up, and that that air-cooled sound is signature to Porsche.
I'd like to set my mind at ease once and for all, so can someone here confirm if this sound is normal on the Boxster's flat-6?

Totally normal. The lifters in the both the Box and 911 are noisy on balance and noisier when cold.
This is a quirk of the car, they still sound a lot like an air cooled, solid lifter.
Some folks love it, some don't.
Hey, the car has character, right??

Man, you do not know how much relief you've just inserted into my life. All this while, I've been worried to death about the engine falling out, and no one else I know has a flat-six, so I've got nothing to benchmark against.
You've been a fantastic help time and time again. If you're in Dubai any time, feel free to drop me a line, I'll buy you a round
And now I'm off to go for a midnight cruise and enjoy some character *yippee*

My pleasure!
I have heard nothing but great things about Dubai and my visiting is not that far fetched at this point.
Enjoy!

Yeah, shopping here is amazing, but I'd rather spend my hard earned bucks on my car and apartment
The drawback is that I'm nowhere near any really excellent mechanics like I was back in Singapore. Back there, I had one whom I'd trust with my life, and he wouldn't charge me an arm and a leg to tune my car (an Evolution IX), and he was an expert at alignment.
It's a whole different ballgame here, and if it wasn't for you guys in this forum, I really wouldn't know what to do with this dream ride!
