Transmission Question..
Here is the info.
2004 Special Edition
6 speed manual
Here are the sporadic symptom's.
- when going into 2nd it feels like it goes into gear and when you release the clutch and then it pops out of gear
- if you try to put it back in to gear it grinds.
- if you then go into 3rd and back to 2nd it is fine
- it does not do it all the time..
- it does not do it when down shifting
What is the consensus?
1. Linkage adjustment
2. Mechanical issues.
I would love to hear all ideas..
I hope an adjustment but I fear the worst.
Thanks Guys.

I just noticed that Soxfan 1966 had just posted almost the identical post the other day.
Sorry about that.
If there is any difference between the S and the SE please let me know.
Thanks

you have a different issue.
on top of the grinding 2nd gear, you have a "pop out".
both issues are very well known and discussed.
worst case scenario, you are looking at a 2nd gear synchro that need to be replaced.
if you are lucky, you might get by, by adding a second gear detent.
here is some reading material for the next year or two about your issue.

Your synchronizing rings (transmission internals) are a bit too worn, and if it is not that, you may have a cable or shifter issue...but probably synchros.

Note that older versions of the detent mod part have been discredited as causing more damage ! So suggest you confirm you get the latest upgrade like the GBox item.
There is also a CMS shift Arrestor that has been discussed on the Forums. You need to really understand exactly what the defect is before you choose either(but not both!) part.
Neither will fix mal-adjusted/worn shifter cable ends. That = new cables

As stated in the other thread, check your motor mount and change the gear oil and only put in Porsche approved gear oil. The detent is a nice upgrade to eliminate the 2nd gear pop out but since you mention grinding this is not likely to fix you current issue.
You don't mention if it only does it when cold or in all conditions. If the other fixes mentioned does not take care of the issue then it's your second gear synchro and if that's the case you need a rebuild.
