Oh Deer
Well, today marks the end of my car, I won't be able to afford a repair. It's been a good run, either I'll sell it at some point or part it out. Deer are the worst.

Hopefully you are good, looks like the deer not so much. What part of Wisconsin? I'm originally from Madison.

Everyone was fine, just slowed the car down a little faster than hard braking. The passenger thought I had slammed on. Rhinelander WI

Glad to hear both of you are ok! I have had a few close encounters with deer in the Rhinelander area. Sorry for your loss.

Update here, looks like he's not giving up on her yet. He's looking for a new hood.

Did your headlights get damaged too? You might have luck finding a hood down in the Chicago area. I see a few salvage boxsters go up auction over there every once in awhile. Not so many in Wisconsin

Sorry to hear of this but glad that everyone is ok!
I'd take it in and have it inspected. It might be cheaper than you're thinking to repair.
My son had a deer run into the side of his 325i. $6500 in damage was covered by insurance (damage to passenger fender, A-pillar, front passenger door replaced, rear passenger door damage, rear quarter panel damage, windshield replaced).

Thanks guys for all the support! Once we got it into the garage, I was able to see the extent of the damage. Nothing to the frame, luckily. Nothing on the panels surrounding the hood, just the hood and the metal that it latches into. The brake reservoir is broken off, however, so if I can't successfully dig the plastic pieces out of the master cylinder, I may need both a master cylinder and brake reservoir.
The damage:

Luckily enough, I have an extra set of headlights, and the hood will come off easily enough. All the carpet is now removed from the area, and the amp has been disconnected and taken out. I'll take it in for an estimate tomorrow, hopefully it won't be too outrageous for them to bend that back. Hood will be ordered in a few days. Brake reservoir and cylinder will be ordered soon as well.

Remove the front bumper first, than decide what might be replaced. Even if it doesn't look damaged and you might be able to pull the frunk out i suspect there is more damage below and it will not be easy to get the frunk back to function.

Easy peasy.
With the bumper rebar and bumper skin off, that's maybe 3 hours at the body shop on the rack.

Estimate came in for $500 today, looks like it's going in sometime in the next couple weeks. Was a little nerve wracking to drive it there without a hood.

Glad you guys are Ok, that is the most important thing
The car definitely looks fixable
You could probably file a claim with your insurance company if you want
In looking at the parts catalog, all 986 have the same hood sheet metal

Hello,
the hood is the right one. But i wouldn't buy it, because the back looks like it had a massive injury:
Maybe itsnotanova has a better one.
Shipping is also not that easy. Had a replacement door for my other car. They shipped 3 ones. The first 2 ones where damaged by transport.
Regards, Markus

Is there an alternative hood anywhere? I don't think the damage is too extensive on that one, but if it's too expensive for what it is, then I won't buy it.
