Front Bumper Choices

Looking for some advice on replacing my damaged front bumper (don't ask). There is no other damage.

I've got a 2002 base model, black. I see many used bumpers listed on eBay as well as new GT3 and Turbo look bumpers/kits. Most are in my budget range of $5-600.

I would like to make the repair as simply as possible and buy a new/used bumper, have it painted to match, and bolt it right on. Will any of these bumpers work or do I need to be aware of certain years or models not fitting properly on my car. Will an S model bumper fit?

Thanks
George

Any 986 (97-04) bumper will fit, you can also use some 996 bumpers, but you have to make sure it is not a 996.2 bumper as the headlight cutout is different. The only difference between the base and S bumpers is the center radiator cutout, having the center radiator cutout on the base will not affect anything.

Another consideration is the trim pieces. If you can reuse the grill parts from your current bumper, great. Otherwise, they add a bit to the cost: http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/24402-2002-2003-front-bumper-swap-done.html
If you get an S model bumper, you will probably also want the trim for the center radiator hole.
I have bought two bumper covers from APW using a discount for free shipping and 15% on one, 20% off an the other. (They send discount emails weekly.)

I can never find the part using their normal catalog, but here's the one for a base model: http://www.********************************************************************************************/sku/Replacement/Bumper_Cover/REPP010304P.html?loc=Front
I got that to my door for under $300 (primed).
It looks like their S model bumper I purchased is no longer available. Part number was: REPP010303P and it cost about the same.

It all depends on what you thing looks good. The 1999 to 2001 996 bumpers (IMHO) look good on our cars. What ever you do, get the license plate holes filled. A smooth nose on any bumper looks so good. License plate..... we don't need no stinking license plate.

I have a 99 and replaced my bumper with a 996 when I added the center radiator. but prices are all over. I paid $150 for mine and it was in great shape.

I had a damaged front bumper on my 02s. I replaced it with a 996 and cut out a hole for the center radiator. I think it worked well, fit no problem!

Thanks for all the information and pics. I'll check out the used bumpers and compare to a new one to see which one looks good to me.
