Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue

Ok, Driving to the track my clutch starts to fail. The pedal now engages near the bottom instead of the top like it used to and is slipping a bit.
Had a highly respected mechanic take a look and drive the car and he agreed that the clutch needs to be replaced.

Ok, need a new clutch and no tracing this weekend, bummer
So drive I drive home and it throws a CEL, P0430. Since I had my OBD II dongle plugged in, cleared the code. A couple of hours later, back it comes.

Now I have to figure out where I put the can of glue......

Hopefully its just an O2 sensor. But I do have to agree, things tend to break right after I fix something else.

Isn't that the truth... first my car's MAF crapped out, then the coolant tank. It was an expensive week!

0430 is often just a bad gas cap. Easy fix. Clutch, not so much.

Did I find some bad info that code is a O2 sensor or cat? Didnt find any reference for gas cap, not doubting you just trying to learn...

P0430 has nothing to do with the gas cap, it is the code for low conversion rates on the three way cat on bank 4-6. Usually, this is a failing cat.

Right you are JFP. That was a hip shot from memory and I didn't look it up. My bad.

P0445 was resolved with a fresh gas cap but a periodic P0430 is indeed a poor functioning cat. I managed to clear it out some with a bottle of techron and a spirited drive so it would still pass smog but the code reappeared 6 months later. The long term fix is to replace the failed cat.

Stuff happens

At least my son got an E ticket ride with Dwain for a session.
I guess I will have to fly him into Ontario from college in September for the POC PDS in Fontana

I'd say you definitely have a failed cat Markus. Techron would only be a temporary fix for this one.

Well, the flywheel was toast and the clutch was almost gone.
Now with a new flywheel and clutch, the car shifts like it is brand spanking new!

Now the bad news...
My bank 2 2nd cat is toast. Stuff falls out of it.

Fortunately I have a great indy mechanic that does not charge me an arm and 2 legs for his labor.
The clutch, and flywheel and his labor was $950!. Now I did buy the flywheel a few months back on ebay for $125, it was basically brand new (had 6 miles on it) and got the clutch kit for $325. $500 for labor, I think I got a deal
