Another good question would be what is the search function, or even what is Google? The answer is valuable tools that answer easy questions like these.

Not trying to come off as a jerk, we know you're new here. This forum works best when it isn't cluttered with threads that could've been answered with a simple search. In the future please exhaust all simple search options before you come to the group.

The LN IMS Solution is what Porsche should have designed and installed on all 986/996 engines !

Yes, but knowing Porsche, can you imagine how much it would cost??

My educated guess is a LOT less than all the engines that were replaced under warranty. Plus a lot less bad press .

And the cost of a class action lawsuit.

by using the same cylinder head on both halves of the flat six instead of separate castings, using lots of cheap black plastic that gets sticky over time in the interior and only installing spin-locks in Boxsters that came from the factory with hard-tops!

"LN" is a brand name for aftermarket car parts.

"IMS" is an abbreviation or acronym than stands for "intermediate shaft." But the part most likely being referred to there is not a complete intermediate shaft, but just the sealed bearing at the transmission end of this shaft.

LN and other aftermarket vendors sell various aftermarket versions this bearing separately, and generally provide a means of in-car installation that requires transmission and flywheel removal.

Porsche sells an IMS assembly which includes the IMS bearing, but installation requires engine disassembly.

That's only true on the '06-'09 cars, (I think).

Earlier, must drop the tranny only.

Later, doesn't have the problem.
