Boxster Prices

They have a '964 Prices' thread on rennlist.com, and I thought it be useful to have a similiar thread here to keep track of the current prices. If you look at Craigslist the prices of the 986's are all over the place. A lot of buyers post about what their car is worth, and a lot of sellers are curious as to what it will cost to get into one. I know I was when i was in the market.

I got an exceptional deal when I bought in Febuary. Probably $1k below the actual value. Here are my details:

Purchase price (in US$) $7,500
Purchase date 2/1/2016
Mileage - 100k
State/Country where purchase - Maryland
Model year - 2001
S model
Color - Blue/Blue
Manual
Any aftermarket accessories that came with the car (including but not limited to wheels, suspension, IMS upgrade, ect.) None
Your assessment of the vehicle history in terms of paperwork/receipts (1-10, 10 being highest) 3
Your assessment of the interior quality (1-10, 10 being highest) 8
Your assessment of the exterior quality (1-10, 10 being highest) 8
Your assessment of the mechanical condition of the vehicle (1-10, 10 being highest) 8

At this point its all about condition, service records/proper maintainance and mileage. Each has a big impact on what the market will pay for these cars. In your case even with 100k and lack of history for an S that was a pretty good price.

Purchased in March 2015
2000 Boxster S
Stuggart car
Arctic Silver black interior
$11,100

Beautiful car, one flaw was crack in top plastic window.

Since then:
Front bilstein sport struts
LN ims replacement
Clutch, pressure plate, flywheel
Drop links sway bar bushings
Water pump

All suspension was chasing a noise. Was a drop link. Everything else preventative.
Clutch might have needed replacement. Was told at ims replacement by garage.

Here is one (of several) sites where you can get pricing trends (by model year) over whatever time period you like. Of course, it doesn't include details like aftermarket parts but it is statistically accurate.

1000 bucks not a typo

If I can figure out how to post pictures I will tomorrow, it's not clean but it runs very well. The top is separating at the window and the seats are trashed and the rims are flaking paint and it has a dent by the right side vent. The only major issue I have mechanically is the a/c does not blow cold at idle but I did pay 1000 bucks for it and running Jetta from a guy who is leaving the island.

You know I find it interesting that those charts have 98s selling for less than 97s. However I find that also interesting because I remember when looking to buy a second BOX most of the worst cared for cars were 98s, maybe it had something to do with it being second year of production and owners at the bottom of the waiting list got them or something.

In 2014 that was an average price. The windshield was (still is) broken on the passenger side.

Now it has 112K miles, and even with all the new parts and work done, I don't think it's worth more than 8000$
