Good Roads in Chicago / Burbs

Good Afternoon,

I have now been a proud Boxster owner for 6 weeks and loving every minute I spend in the car. I actually look forward to driving to work every morning, and find myself taking the long way home every night.

I was wondering if anyone had some good suggestions of some nice roads to drive in the Chicago / Suburban area ? Unfortunately this area is so flat and congested that I rarely get a chance to experience all that the car has to offer.

I moved up here ( over here ? ) from San Diego and miss the great roads and weather, but I love Chicago in the Spring and Summer.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Nick

I'd like to know too! ....I know if you go west from maybe Naperville or so there probably is some, but since I don't know where the police like to hang, I'm a little bit apprehensive to open it up .....In Hawaii, just hit the "high road", and it was no problem hitting 100 + without fear......By the way, I don't like Illinois police too much

BigIslandBoxster,

Meka Leka Hi Meka Hiney Ho ! I thought I was nuts moving here from San Diego, but I can't imagine relocating from Hawaii ! I miss surfing, luckily I go back to California once a year to hit the waves. Suburban cops are brutal due to the fact that they don't have much else to do, but Chicago PD are great ( unless you do something REALLY stupid ). I would definitely recommend a good radar detector up here ( I have an Escort Solo S2, I hate wires ! ). The Valentine One is probably still the best on the market...

i saw this post on another forum just recently. if you take sheridan rd all the way up north past evanston, there is so winding roads up there. however, it's 25-35mph speed limit as it's a residential area though.

It's been a while since I lived there, but I remember a noteworthy road called either Grove Rd or Groove Rd -I think it was Grove... It's west-ish of Naperville, really out of the way of Chicago though.

Take a weekend trip up north to Door County, Wisconsin (5 hours from CHI- 3.5 hours in a Boxster -barring WI's finest). GREAT roads, great scenery, great weather, great place to get away (unincorporated). I'll be up that way this July (sans Boxster unfortunately). Perfect place for an auto photoshoot or just cruisin' in a convertible.

Woodfield Mall parking lot...oh...my bad...thats my wife's favorite twisty.

Seriously...head towards Starved Rock and you'll find some twisties to play on. I can't remember the streets but a good map could help you.

NicKats, TOO funny on the Hawaiian!! It was a long trip for sure, it was a long time coming really.....but the experience of the island was great out there...nothing like it! I hear you about the suburban cops, I used to live out here til about 6 years ago, and I had some errr, run ins, so I'm aware of them. Never had any problems with city cops tho, you're right....

Jeph, I'll have to check the name on that road, I used to take it out (if its the one I'm thinking about) to a nice lake out there to go fishing. Pretty wide open from what I remember....and yes! Wisconsin! I used to go up north fishing every year since I was a wee tot. Loved it, went up to Sawyer county around Hayward mostly, but was up around Door county once or twice too. Beautiful area up there, especially in fall with the trees and all...

Southern Illinois around Starved Rock sounds great too....just have to get me a radar detector for the State Police...
