Anyone know what this is?

I took my rear fender off today to fit a reversing camera, and in the process this dropped out from the left wheel arch area. I'm not sure what it is, where it goes, or even if it's part of the car or just some random crud that got stuck up there...anyone?

Garage
It's a square ring belt buckle with the center clasp broken off.

I have that same buckle on the belt of my trench coat. now if you keep digging and find a crumpled hat and the broken end of an umbrella handle, I'd be a bit concerned.
