Instrument Cluster 70% Dead

Hi all,

A strange problem with 1999 2.5 Boxster which I would appreciate any help or pointers on what could fix it.

The photo shows everything that works on my dashboard, everything else is dead. For instance:
  • No Rev Counter
  • No Speedo
  • No info in any of the LED displays (although the backlights are on)

And the spoiler warning light stays on all the time! The fuel and temperature gauges work fine.

The photo shows the lights etc on the first click of the key.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Is the immobilizer wet? Fresh battery? Fully charged?

Check all fuses?

Back to basics

Check the plugs in the back of the cluster, check each wire in the plugs to see if any have backed out for any reason...then fuses....do not look at them take a Ohm Meter and check for continuity

Fuses? Unlikely but maybe the ignition switch took a crap?

I just went thru a similar issue and the cluster was dead and there is no fixing it.

I installed a used one from Woody = itsnotanova on here. It's and easy swap with just a couple of screws and 4 plugs.

To be sure, the spoiler light stays on even after driving? Mine sometimes stays on until I start moving. I'm sure there is a good reason for this.

My guess would be that the Sensor used to register speed for raising and lowering the spoiler provides no input until the car moves. Once some input is sensed, the light goes out.
