Used reservoir coolant tank, question

Hey guys is it safe to buy a used reservoir coolant tank? Someone parts out a Boxster 99 and he said the coolant is looking great and no crack no leak and its the genium one, he wants 150$ for it. Give an idea guys, thanks

Hodan, Hodan, hodan,... You are not going to take the advice that everyone has been giving you to buy a genuine Porsche tank. I understand, it's a lot of money.
If you are considering buying a USED one from 1999 for $150, please spend a little more and get this one from Pelican Parts:

It is made by a Porsche OE supplier. There is a good chance that it is exactly like the ones originally installed by Porsche, but without the Porsche brand (and extra mark-up).

Sounds like a bad idea. Plastic can degrade with time, and these will also be under hot temperatures and pressure if the used engine they are off of has many running hours or miles.

When you do an oil change, do you take the old oil from one car and put it into another? If your brake pads are worn, do you go to a junk yard for 15 year old, used brake pads? The coolant expansion tank is worn by both use and age. The plastic deteriorates over the years. Heat and the cycles of expansion and contraction break down the structure. A used tank from a 1999 will not last nearly as long as a new tank. It is near the end of it's designed life-span.

As the used parts supplier around here, I do get boxsters in with recently replaced tanks and brakes. Not so much with suspension pieces though

How about this, since you don't seem to want to take advice, you do whatever it is you want and stop asking for advice you won't take. The post from 78f350 is the biggest dose of common sense you're gonna get...if that don't work we can't help ya...

Here's another suggestion... use the search function and do your own research instead of making a nuisance of yourself asking the same question over and over. The topic of coolant tanks has been covered many times. There is a already wealth of advice here that you can ignore.

With the insane amount of trouble and expense it takes to swap one of these things out, you don't want to be doing it again anytime soon! A proper OE new one will pay for itself in that regard.

Old plastic won't get better with age. Its a short term solution. Fix it once and fix it right.

I'm pretty frugal when it comes to money. I don't know your situation but you are doing your own labor and you want to do a used tank, do it. You will be better at doing it again when it fails. This is not a fun job. You won't get that much better at doing it the second time around.

If you can afford the new tank. Install it and put this situation to bed.

Yeah. It seems like we've got some guys going all touchy-feely PC don't hurt anybody's feelings lately. I thought we were all grown men, here (with the exception of our few ladies and young-uns).

With Pelicant they will charge me for shipping and customs become almost the same price! Thank you guys even some of you are very mean!!! Lolll

Being cheap, er, frugal, I try to time my major parts purchases to coincide with a trip to the U.S. Many vendors offer free shipping in the CONUS and I try to take advantage of that.
Last summer I took in a race in Bristol TN and had my goods shipped to the hotel I stayed at and brought them back with me.
