Very nice job. I'm sure you have a great sense of satisfaction (well justified!).

rick3000 08-10-2016 10:00 AM

Very impressed by how well this turned out! So glad you took the time to restore it properly!

Also about to purchase: 2002 Boxster S, Black

With the graphite gray interior. The top is suspiciously gray, too. Was that ever an option for a black body with gray interior, or is it an amazingly uniform faded black top?
Also has the litronic headlights, 18" 2 piece wheels and the Bose subwoofer. A Porsche specialist is selling it, they bought it from a 10 year customer, full records with recent clutch, flywheel, IMS, OAS etc etc. A bit worn and faded, but mechanically sound, just cannot figure out that top.

GTA_G20 10-03-2016 06:10 AM

What's the vin number

GTsilber 10-18-2016 10:03 AM

I finally got a durametric and am able to properly diagnose more complicated issues, don't know why I didn't purchase sooner! First thing I did was clear my airbag light and the second thing I did was check my cam deviation values, here they are:
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...46078cf835.jpg

Here are some other p codes that came up when I Ran some diagnostics, I have already replaced the brake pedal sensor and all brake lights are working, not sure why this error keeps popping up.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1fb77d84a6.jpg

I also changed my serpentine belt, glad I did as the old one was cracking around the edges.

And I found some time to install my FVD 996 turbo pedals [emoji7]
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...1eb3fdb072.jpg

Here's a list of items that still need to be fixed:

Replace clutch and flywheel
Install new engine mount and shims
Fuel filling issue - unable to fill up
Chain ramp tensioners
Check timing and chains - done
Replace primary cat
A/C - no cold air, compressor and clutch working fine
CV Axles replace
Install technobrace
Wind screen deflectors install
Pedals - done
P0420
P0455
Change serpentine belt - done
Install 997 TB and plenum
Replace MAF

P0455:

Take off your gas cap and get a look at the o-ring that seals it. It's probably cracked. You can replace the whole cap (non-vented), or just get a new o-ring.

Very nice work. It is amazing to me that people could neglect a special edition car
my car needs some cosmetic attention. new carpeting is in order as well as soft top. But people still can't believe it when I tell them it's 16.5 years old and has not had a full repaint.

p.s.
Try the Griot's Garage wax below if your near an advanced auto or some other store that carries it. I don't put a lot of stock in brand hype but for a product you can buy over the counter this is as good as any of the more expensive boutique brand mail order stuff I've overpaid for. Provided you do a clay bar and an ay least manual compound polishing first to clean the paint even if you don't need to remove swirl marks.

I replaced the gas cap with an oem a month ago. Should I clear the code and see if it comes back?

Can't hurt to clear it, but check out this thread too:

I traded in the SE today for a 2002 996 C4S (RMS, IMS, and clutch replaced 10k miles ago.) Sad day but I couldn't turn down this offer [emoji16]. I have quite a few box items for sale, stay tuned!

Not a hell of a lot, $9k. Small user car dealership dealing with mostly German cars, friend of mine owns it.

88k, nothing major mechanically as far as I could tell. Its a driver not a Concourse car, AC wasnt blowing cold, driver door panel needed to be replaced, has the fuel fill issue where it spits back fuel when pumping, needs a new clutch (which I have bnib). I'll send you a PM.

Can you give us impressions (driving, fit and finish) between the Anniversary Edition and the C4S?

Driving:
You can definitely feel the additional weight in the 996 and the rear mounted engine weighs down the car a lot. The additional weight and distribution is a pretty dramatic departure compared to the 986. Where the 986 was light, nimble, and agile the 996 seems like a pig and isn't as maneuverable in corners (impression after 2 days of driving.) The added power of the 3.6, roughly 65 hp, over the 3.4 is noticeable and the AWD helps keep the car planted, the C4s feels incredibly solid and grounded. You can feel the additional power, a 986 with a 3.6 would be a sensational car to drive. I haven't driven a C2 996 but I would imagine that it's easy to brake the rear end loose with only rwd. My C4s has the PSE so that definitely makes it sound great but I think the 986 is more drivable if that makes sense.

Fit/Finish:
Very similar finish but one thing that I do love is the fact that I get to stare into the 996's bowels by just opening the trunk...I really despised having to go through a 20 minute ordeal every time to get to the engine, i'm lazy. A lot of the interior components are identical to the 986, mine has the Navi as well as parktronic which is a really nice feature for a car that's 14 years old - but overall, the interior is bland and darth vaderish. I do love the widebody styling of the 996 C4S, I think it makes the car...identical body as the 996 turbo with the exception of the side air scoops.

If I could have both a 996 and a 986 that would be ideal, both cars serve different purposes and I enjoy different aspects of both models.

Thanks for that, it was exactly the type of response I was looking for.
