				Is This Normal

I finally got to see what my engine looks like.
Here is what I found.

The engine is dirty but dry. Except on this one part.
Would a bad/going AOS unit do this? If not what?

The dealer says that this is normal and all Boxsters have some weeping.

Is this Bull S**T or true?

Clean the engine and see what comes back. You can't know what's old and what's not. That's my advice.

i think you just have a dirty motor. If you had an AOS problem, you'd have smoke coming out exhaust and find it hard to open your oil filler cap with car idling.

Clean the motor off, drive it for a few months and take another look. I think you're good to go.

The oil could possibly from the power steering vent - check the level to make sure its not low....

It's definitely not an AOS issue. My engine bay looked similar until I cleaned it off, so I'd say it's usual.

Looks normal to me. At least for a box with more than 80k and has never been cleaned.

AOS puts oil on the INSIDE not the outside. It is odd that it is all on the center section of the intake tho...

Don't fret the AOS...it's a ~$125 part and easily replaced on 2003-04 Boxsters without going underneath the car.

I did my buddies 03S about a month ago. I'd never done an AOS and it took me 2 hours start to finish. Most of the first thirty minutes was just locating the tubes and bolts that needed to be removed. It looked daunting at first but was really a piece of cake.

Yea, pretty sweet looking car. What kind of wax etc... do you use to have it shine like that?

I hate green cars, apart from yours - that's beautiful.

Anyway back on topic, it's normal. Mine was the same before I cleaned it.

It seems like everyone has a damp spot around the power steering reservoir.
I have cleaned it, replaced the cap o-ring & checked the connections - and I still have the damp patch!

Bought my 03s last year, haven't had a look at the engine yet but that should change soon. I know I will probably want to clean it, but have to admit spraying water on the engine just makes me nervous!

What do you folks use to clean your engines? The engine in my 02 base with 63k on the clock looks similar.
