Control Arms, DIY?

Just wondering if this is a do it yourself project.

Also, bushing replacement. I know about the sway bar bushings (do it yourself?), but I'm also wondering if there are any other bushings I should replace.

Thanks!

Hi,

Why do you think you need these? How many miles on your car? What symptoms are you experiencing? ...

Hi Jim,

I purchased the car used last year, 2002 with 59k.

Whenever I go over bumps(rough roads), there is some type of rattle. I checked the control arms, but they seem okay. In searching the forum, I've seen other items that have my similar situation, sway bar/bushings, or control arms.

I hear what a great handling car this is, and it is, but I feel that the car leans too much. Like some cars seem to really hug corners and kind of lean in, making you feel secure, this car, while it handles good, it doesn't give me that secure feeling.
I once said that I felt more secure in my college car, 89 civic. But I figured it was because I was traveling at a lower speed. But while driving the car, I can drive behind a truck and the truck appears to have no problems taking turns, while I feel more leary.

I thought it could be the struts, per your old post, but figured I try other things before plunking down over 1k for the parts.

Thanks Jim for any isight.

I also posted a request over at pbb, for someone to test my car and see if I'm crazy.

Thanks again!

Jack

you might be crazy... :-)

it's odd for you to have this feeling in a boxster. you may have more than one problem. first, 59K is not that many miles (especially for suspension components to wear to the extent that you'd experience these types of issues). let's pretend that you have TWO issues: a rattle, and a not-so confident driver's experience.

rattle: don't just start replacing parts. where is it coming from? when do you hear it? is the car warm / cold? are you going slow / fast? is it over bumps or in turns? give us as much info as possible.

second: i doubt if anything in your suspension is worn so badly that your car's performance has been reduced to the degree of which you speak. let's start with the logical owner influenced possibility: what kind of tires are on the car?

also, what year is the car? base or 's'? tip or manual?

In addition what size wheels do you have? I know when I went from the stock 17 inch to the 18 inch Turbo Twist design there was a night and day difference in the handling. Made the 17inch wheels feel like a joke.
