Nice job. Would like to do something like that with mine, but I don't have that type of talent.

waiting for a OTG cable to come in so I can start testing with USB camera and a way to trigger the camera app when reversing.
Right now I am thinking of using a Arduino to simulate a keyboard. when the Arduino board gets a 12V input (wire from backup lights) it would send a keystroke which would trigger Tasker to open the camera app. when it no longer sees the the 12V it would send another keystroke that would close the app.
Not that I really need the backup camera on this car, but it is more about the challenge of doing it.

I also have a Cobra radar detector that connects BT to my tablet. it starts with ignition on. so I have built a tasker profile that, when the detector connects, it unlocks the screen, sets it to "car mode" (screen doesn't sleep) and launches the iRadar app, start music playing etc.. when it loses the BT connection, it closes all apps and puts the tablet to sleep.
also, I already had the LG Tablet (cost me $1)

I use the Escort radar app. Yes, auto on and off would be nice, but I have an iPhone, an iPad, and a work iPad so using android would just be more work for me. I bought a used iPad mini, no where near a $1 though!

Are you using a Internet connection to download the maps. I know on the iPad it requires a connection. Does the Android not have this requirement?

I use Here maps - free offline GPS navigation, no internet/data connection needed once you download the app via WiFi or 4G. If you do have a data connection, it can do traffic and all the other fun stuff as well. Worked like a charm in Europe.

Nice Job! I did mine using a Nexus 7 tablet. It has a great USB ROM floating around the internet that does all the start up and shut down stuff without using Tasker. I'm pretty sure I saw a video of a guy who had wired in a usb camera to his backup lights, and a receiver connected to his USB hub. The program would automatically start, whenever the camera was powered on. So put the car in reverse, and bang. I will post it if I can find it.
Here is a pic of how mine turned out.

Amp question
Did you have the stock amp with the built in controls? If so did you just eliminate it?

You mean the stock amp and the in dash EQ? If so, yes I have it. I just left the EQ wired and put it behind the dash. I bought a wiring harness, and wired up the after market Kenwood, to the stock amp. Sounds great!

Nice job. The Android tablet is a good choice for this mod instead of the iPad as you get GPS without the required monthly data plan on an iPad equipped with GPS. No GPS would really limit the functionality of a smart head unit. Also, depending on your smartphone carrier, you can use FoxFi app from your Android smartphone to share your data from the phone to the tablet without having to pay an additional monthly fee for tethering. Although I wouldn't go crazy streaming NetFlix, that would throw up a red flag that you were tethering under the radar and would be throttled AOL speeds. Unless you have a grandfathered Verizon unlimited data plan, they have to throttle everyone on the network or no one, they can't cherry pick based on how much or how little they make off your contract.
