Door Lock Mechanism question

All,

I have decided to replace the door lock mechanism and the window microswitch on my passenger door in order to try to eliminate my alarm system problems. I have a thread here and on RennTech and pretty much it seems that the problem is with the microswitches, probably the window one, but possibly the door lock ones.

So, I looked on Pelican and they have the part number as 8N1-837-016-C-VAG. A quick search on that shows it is a shared part with Audi TT (and others) and possibly Volkswagons as well.

Is that accurate?

Thanks, John

That part number is in the official 986 Parts Catalogue (link) for the passenger side door lock MY98+. I am not surprised it is also a VW/Audi part, there are a couple of those in the 986.

The passenger door lock (like the one I used in the link) has 3 microswitches built into it: door opened/closed, door locked/unlocked and safe contact. The door opened/closed microswitch affects the window drop function by causing your window to not drop or stay dropped or go up and down randomly. The only other microswitches in the door are attached to the door handles and they activate the window drop function, but only when the door opened/closed switch tells the CLU that the door is closed. The driver's door lock has an extra microswitch which lets the CLU know when they key is turned to the open/closed position. All the microswitches apart from the door handle ones come as part of the door lock.

An update. I purchased a passenger door lock mechanism from Woody and installed it over the weekend. So far, I have not had the problem again. No beep beep. No alarm light. The window drops when the passenger door is opened. Pretty happy so far!

How did you manage to remove the defect one? I tried replacing mine but I couldn't get the old one out, because of the frame...
Thanks.

John,
How did you check the part number equivalence between Porsche and Audi/VW ?

I have a problem on the driver side (left hand drive). It wont lock/unlock, while the passenger lock locks/unlocks and the instrument panel button works as well.
