Plastic splash shield/belly pan. Is it necessary?

I wouldn't buy used for this - the plastic on boxsters has a lifetime - chances are good that anything yo buy used will be brittle and, most likely, come broken (was broken on the car, got broken on removal by the wrecker, got broken in shipping - it is a big piece).
