Porsche Books?

Anyone got any bibles they swear by that cover the brand?

There seems to be a lot of privately written books rattling around out there for sale, but strangely with Porsche selling everything short of branded diapers, they don't have a book collection that covers the brand available for sale (or at least from what I can tell). You think it would be easy prey given they'll have all the archive access and the likes to make a set of information that couldn't be created otherwise.

Then again I shudder to think of the prohibitive cost of such a thing if it were to exist...

Also curious if there's any 986 and/or Boxster specific publications that anyone cares to endorse as a must have.

Porsche - Excellence Was Expected.

The definitive guide to the brand. Three volume set. 66 chapters and 1688 pages. Not cheap.

I have found most Porsche books to be rather inaccurate, specifically when it comes to the Boxster. One I was gifted has a picture of a 987 which is captioned as a 986. I have heard Excellence Was Expected is very good. I consider the Bentley Repair Manual to be the Boxster Bible. 101 Projects for Your Porsche Boxster is also good. On the non-coffee table or repair manual side, I also really enjoyed The Gold Plated Porsche.

If you can find someone selling a set, the OEM 13 volume service manual set:

The OBD II manual would also be an excellent addition, but are much rarer.

An enjoyable read, covers the development history of the Boxster in a fair amount of detail.
