This is the first time I've needed a pump to fill a tranny. What are you using?

Before dumping the oil I checked the level and it measured about 16mm below the edge so I'm guessing that might have had something to do with the notchy-ness while cold. Quick shifter is in and am looking forward to an improvement in cold performance.

Go and get a cheap drill water pump and adapt the hose ends to a tube. Works great.

Proper level is about 1mm below the hole.

I was able to get the 1 qt containers up there and with a nozzle on them, squeeze the oil in. No pump needed.

Used to buying in gear oil bottles that that come with a nozzle. Generally have no problems and on occasion attach a tube.
Dealer sent the Durmah in litre engine oil containers. Could probably screw around with fittings on the original caps but looking for the easiest way with the least waste/mess.
The responses have been good and I'm sure I'll see the light...

I use the exact same pump! In fact, I just used it yesterday to replace the trans fluid. Its cheap and it works great.

It really just dopes not hold that much. I used one of these I purchased at a Auto Zone on the closeout table for 2 bucks

The red pump shown is available all over . You will see it for $15. Use a coupon and buy it at Harbor Freight for $5. They are so cheap I have a couple for different fluids.

Well, bought and used the orange pump. Worked ok.

Some fine brass in the old oil, hopefully normal for first change.

Not sure if you have a manual or tiptronic, but if it is a manual, you can use a funnel instead of a pump. I attached 3' of vinyl tubing to the end of a funnel with a heat gun, and poured from the engine bay down into the fill hole. It's a lot easier in my opinion, and cost about $3, but you will need an assistant.

FYI, if you have a manual transmission make sure you use the correct OEM oil. Earlier years use a different oil.

This sounds like a winner. Will have to inlist one of the kids to help

Yep, splurged on the Durmah from the dealer, 51$ cdn per litre from the dealer, thus the problem filling as it came in engine oil bottles.
