Hello all, new to this site, I have been viewing this forum for about 3 years and have gained much valuable information. A little about my background I have worked as a automotive manufacturing engineer for over 20 and have owned a total of 5 different model Porsche's from the baby 914 to the 930 and now a 02 Boxster base. I purchased the 986 2 years ago which I found on Cars.com I was a bit crazy or stupid regarding the purchasing of the car but it was undervalued at about 3k at the time so checked the cars history on CarFacs it came up clean then placed a deposit on the car sight unseen from a dealer in Texas, flew from CT. did a basic inspection, all looked OK except for a slight rear main seal leak which had been documented to have had a problem some 30k miles ago. I completed the purchase of the car and dove it 2,3k miles to CT with no problems. The only problem I have had with the car in 2.5+ years of ownership is the front trunk latch will not release 102K when purchased.

I had my doubts at first, but after looking closely, it's a Boxster.
Nice.

If your front trunk will still not release there are a couple of things you can do. I had my cable snap (but mine is a 2000 and I think 02 has an electric switch). I put in a new cable and swaged on new ends and it has been holding up for a long time.
If you take off the right wheel and the fender liner there is an emergency front trunk release - I re-routed mine to behind the front tow hook in case I ever need it again.
Here is a thread with my experience and it links to another thread with pictures and instructions for the emergency front trunk release.

Hi..
Am also new to site!
Been driving my Pre-owned 2013
Boxster S for a month.. 20,000 miles
Manual transmission..
Last week, while driving
"Reduced power" message came on,
followed by start/ stop function
Deactivated.... Limped home, next
morning, check engine light comes
On.. Flat bed car to dealership..
Tow truck operator notices bubble in left
Front tire..Porsche fixes it( under warranty)
Said it was broken fuel pump.. Got a new
tire as well..on the way home, 10 miles out
"Coolant temperature too high" message comes on
"Stop car immediately".. Which I did.
Brought it in , again..
After quick check, I was told the fans
seized up, addirionally, bubble in coolant
System...all replaced, car seems ok..
To all: what should oil temperature be?
Oil pressure??
Ever hear of any of this?
Thanks for all input.
Boxster Neil
