Pedals shifted to the right on new Boxster (test drive)?

I asked this question on Rennlist and was unable to get a response so I thought I would ask it here as well.

I test drove a friends 2006 Boxster this week. While I really like the new Boxster overall, one thing that really bugged me was the feeling that the entire pedal box felt shifted toward the center tunnel. The dead pedal was where I would expect the clutch to be, the clutch where I would expect the brake, etc. I suppose I would get used to it, but even with tilt, I found myself banging my knee into the bottom of the steering wheel due to the high engagement point on the clutch and the position of the clutch pedal.

I have been considering a late model 986S for a while, but have not test driven any yet, only ridden in a few over the years. Are the older S models set-up the same as the 2006 Boxster I drove with the pedals shifted toward the center?

Thanks,
Mike
