I read your post and remembered this picture from the Pelican Article when I did mine. That lower bolt can be accessed from the front with a long extension. It was almost easy (keep a telescoping magnet on hand).

I suspected there was a way to access it from the front. Once I removed the AOS hose I was able to get a small wrench on it and get enough motion to break the bolt free and then work it out with my finger tips that could just barely reach it.
